Rothshambeau

A Note from the Author

As far as I know there is not now and has never been a family named Rothshambeau. The idea for the series of writings came to me as many things do, all at once. The name, the idea and the wording for the pieces were just given to me and I consider that gift to have been from God. In this author’s note I hope to give you some insight into both the setting and persona of the life and people that are Rothshambeau.

The concept of Rothshambeau is a very simple one. In this series I wanted to create the image of a simple man who stands for unquestionable unswerving values. While the character may at times come across as haughty or arrogant it is his security in his values and morality commitment that gives him an unmistakable self-confidence. It is my deep belief that the level of self-confidence portrayed in the words of Rothshambeau can only come from a profound relationship this the spiritual leader of your soul and your life. In many instances Rothshambeau gives reference to his deep held faith in his God. It is also not uncommon for him to refer to the commitments of his life as a continuation of his relationship with God.

The complete identity of Rothshambeau is never clearly stated. A time frame and location for the pieces is never distinguished. These areas are all left to the imagination of the reader. It has been suggested that Rothshambeau might have been an American Indian, or an early Cajun, a Canadian immigrant, a Maine potato farmer, or a youthful southern gentleman. In the eye of the author allowing the reader to develop those portions of the story for themselves helps involve the readers in the story. While as the author I understand this might cause some readers distress I hope it adds richness for those who have the imagination to overcome the obstacle.

The name Rothshambeau has special meaning to me. As I have written of this character I have always envisioned the image of someone of a moral character from a time long lost to modern man. I do believe the morality of modern man has digressed to the point that true morality is again becoming romantic and has faded almost to the point of becoming fantasy.

I have been blessed to have so many positive responses from friends and acquaintances to the pieces about Rothshambeau that I’ve shared. I have started and completed other pieces in this series. I hope in the future to share other Rothshambeau pieces and I’m sure I will, as I’m comfortable with the direction and quality of the unreleased materials. Of everything I have written and shared this series of writings has been one of the most enjoyable for me. The theme of romance is one I have a passion for. Being able to involve religion, morality, traditional values and honesty, gives this series a freshness that helps me enjoy writing. I see the beauty of Rothshambeau as being the personality and character that is the basic elements of who he is and always will be.
