ROTHSHAMBEAU

(Pledgling)

If I were a great orator I could stand before masses and rally them to action. Were I a dynamic motivator I could inspire the few to invoke their will on many. As an inspired writer I could change lives, calm fears, reveal knowledge, and open eyes. Had I a chance to be a devout theologian I could draw souls to their rightful owner and never fear the end.

In real life I am none of those. Yes, I can speak, write, inspire and witness. Yet I fall short of being great at any of them. Like others, I aspire to be more than I am. I dream of doing something as well as it can be done. I dream of be recognized for being someone who is something, someone who changed something, who stood for something.

It’s true that I have dreams of greatness and aspire to be recognized. It is also true that I have little hope of being much more than average. That is mostly because, despite my dreaming, I commit little time to pursuing greatness. Greatness, like knowledge, comes only to those who seek it. Recognition, like change, only comes to those who achieve it.

You may be thinking why would one write such an oratory on the search for what is commonly called success. Well the answer is a simple one. In my search I’ve decide there is something that I’m better than average at. There is something that I’m recognized for and admired for. There is something that sets me apart from others.

I believe the quality that separates me from others is the quality you allow me to share myself with you. I believe that quality is my willingness, no more like yearning to commit myself to you. No, I’m not saying that I aspire to be your friend. Nor do I count on you to thereby attain some social standing. All I’m trying to say is that I cherish you in a way that others don’t understand or care to commit to. I see you as a basic part of my being, essential to who I am.

I hope I would never be so bold as to assume myself to be more to you, than you allowed me to be. I also hope I never fall short of your expectations. If it is possible I hope to always earn your favor and that you never gives up on me.

With the blessings of your father and at your mothers’ delight, I return to stand for your hand. As once my father said these words I say to you, "As I am Rothshambeau, I ask that you become Rothshambeau. As I am honored, I shall honor you. As I pray, I pray for you. As I am blessed, so shall you be blessed. As life knows me, so shall you be known." As my father spoke these words of his truth to my mother, I speak them to you.

In my yearning to know the feel of your touch, the sent of your hair and to the morning light in your eyes I’m restless. My passions are stirred at every thought of you. The burning inside me never subsides. The dignity that is Rothshambeau guides me as bridle directs a colt. As my thoughts are pulled toward lust, greed and passion the strength of who I am keeps.

It is not for lust or passion that I come to you. I in no way desire to posses you. My desire is to know you, to hold you and to have you hold me. I wish to become a part of you and you of me. As my mother nurtured me with words and disciplined me with her eyes she gave of herself to me. In your words I feel that comfort and in your eyes I see that love.

May our Lord come to see one, where once stood two.
