Mother Said
Mother said the flowers would bloom and the birds would sing,
when finally winter turns to spring.
She said there are good and bad people out there,
so please be careful and always be aware.
She said I would know when true love came to call,
I would hear bells and whistles when I took the fall.
She said no man should go through life alone,
there is just too much to share before it’s all gone.
She said that my dad was faithful and kind,
he would always be there to make everything fine.
She said he was one of the few, one of a kind
and always true blue with us on his mind.
She said when he left that dark summers night,
that he would return to make it all right.
She said he needed freedom, a little time that’s all,
because she pressured him she made him fall.
She said she was fine and it didn’t hurt much,
but I could tell how the fire in her heart had been touched.
She said we would keep each other company and never be afraid,
but the pain was too much no matter how brave.
She said, "I love you" one dark summer’s night
and with angels she left her pain and took flight.
Mother said there would be flowers and birds in the spring,
but sometimes you can’t believe anything.
